SBU claims. In October 2008, acting head of the SBU of Ukraine Valentyn Nalyvaichenko stated that his department intended to close the Ukrainian Branch of the Institute of the CIS countries, and for this purpose had sent “motivated documents” to the Ministry of Justice for deregistration of this organization.

Valentyn Nalyvaichenko explained the harsh intentions by the fact that the institute staff organized the conference at which the 1932-1933 Holodomor in Ukraine was denied. Nalyvaichenko also noted that the employees of the Institute of CIS countries should bear criminal liability.
